Sonal Mahapatra, originally from Raleigh, is a freshman at UNC-Chapel Hill majoring in Computer Science. She was recently selected as a UNC Computer Science Student Experience Ambassador and serves as a Full Stack Developer with UNC CS + Social Good and Director of Marketing for the Residence Hall Association, overseeing publicity campaigns, social media, and digital media production. As a Residential Computing Consultant with Carolina Housing, she provides IT support for 10k+ on-campus students. Through UNC’s Accelerated Research Program, Sonal works as an AI Undergraduate Research Assistant in the Department of Psychology & Neuroscience. As UNC Chapel Hill’s first and only IBM Z Student Ambassador, she is building awareness around enterprise computing on campus. She serves as Iota Class President of the technical co-ed fraternity Kappa Theta Pi and is a member of the 2029 NC Fellows Program class at UNC-Chapel Hill.
