Boateng Kubi Selected as Board of Directors Chair

Selected as the 2016-2017 Chair of the Carolina Union Board of Directors is Boateng Kubi, a junior from Prince George’s County, MD, majoring in biology with a double minor in chemistry and philosophy on the pre-med track.

His leadership positions on campus will translate well to his new position as Chair. He serves as vice president of public relations for the Carolina Union Activities Board, chair of recruitment and outreach of the Minority Association of Pre-Health Students, and fellow for Generation Financial Knowledge Development (GENFKD).

In this role, Kubi will serve as the representative of the Board and the student face of the Union. The Chair of the Board provides leadership and oversight in all aspects of the Board, including finance, planning, student affairs, advancement, and other key areas. He has set priorities for the Board for the upcoming year.

“The Union should position itself to educate all students on what is happening globally, expand our current programs, and respond to national issues,” Kubi said.

Kubi’s plans include encouraging student participation in programs provided by Carolina Leadership Development and programming to historically marginalized groups to recognize and celebrate these populations. As Chair, he wants to make the Union a discussion space to educate students about broader social issues.

“The Carolina Union is the beating heart of the University,” Kubi said. As the building has served as a home for him and many other students, he aims to make the Union a safe and interactive space for all students.
