Sara Tovar is originally from Bogota, Colombia but now lives with her family in Centerport, NY. She is a freshman intending to major in Health Policy and Management and minor in Italian. She is passionate about racial and economic justice, advocacy for immigrant rights, patient-centered models of health, and the intersection between healthcare and social justice. At Carolina, Sara has served as the advocacy chair of the Carolina Justice Initiative, a Campus Y committee focused on mitigating the effects of mass incarceration in the triangle area, and as a member of the Carolina Pediatrics Attention Love and Support (CPALS for short) Special Projects Committee, which plans events to support the pediatric oncology clinic at UNC. She hopes to use her education and experiences to advocate for marginalized communities within healthcare and advocate for equity and justice through policy. In her free time, she enjoys running, trying new restaurants/coffee shops, watching rom-coms, and singing karaoke (even if incredibly off-tune)!
