What is a Student Member-at-Large?
As a Student Member-at-Large, you’ll serve as a vital voice representing the student body as a whole on the Carolina Union Board of Directors. Selected through an application process by the Board’, you’ll provide essential student perspective to Board operations and decision-making.
This position is open to any registered, full-time student not scheduled to graduate before the conclusion of the 2025-2026 academic year.
What Will You Do?
A Student Member-at-Large plays an important role in shaping the future of the Carolina Union. Your principal duties include:
- Attend all Board of Directors meetings: Be present every other Wednesday from 5:00pm – 7:00pm for important discussions about the Union’s direction
- Participate in discussions: Your voice matters, and you’ll have a seat at the table during decision-making
- Encourage constituent involvement: Invite students, faculty, and other community members to attend Board meetings
- Guide Board direction: Help steer the Board toward decisions that meet campus and student body needs
- Attend designated committee meetings: Participate in smaller working groups as assigned
- Carry out action-tasks as needed: Take on projects and initiatives that move the Union forward
