The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill

Sofía Sande Fernández

Sofía Sande Fernández is a first-year student pursuing a double major in Studio Art and Business. Originally from Spain but now living in Cary, North Carolina, she is passionate about using the arts as a tool for community engagement and accessibility. She served as a Teen Arts Council Lead for five years at the North Carolina Museum of Art, contributing to youth programming and large-scale public events. On campus, she is President and former Visual Director of St. Anthony Hall, UNC’s arts and literary fraternity and the second-oldest Greek letter organization on campus. A Congressional Silver Medal Awardee, Sofia is passionate about community service and personal growth. She has served as Marketing Manager for Hinton James Community Government, and her artwork has been published and exhibited with multiple campus organizations, including 1922 Cafe and The UNC Cellar Door. Her work often explores memory, family, and cultural heritage. She plans to pursue a career in museum work with a goal of expanding access to the arts across North Carolina. When she’s not keeping up with her absurdly busy schedule, Sofia loves to hike, oil paint, and listen to bossa nova. She is thrilled to be a member of the 2029 North Carolina Fellows Program class.
