During the Carolina Union’s Fall Training, 130 student employees were asked to capture what Excellence in Action looked like to them through the lens of a disposable camera. Each day of training was designated to align with each of the four Excellence in Action values: Honor, Dynamic Learning, Community Engagement, and Personal Responsibility. After learning about the facets of each value, the students were charged with taking photos on campus throughout the day that resonated with them.
Excellence in Action is a Student Affairs initiative for all students to develop an understanding of critical skills and values necessary to succeed here on campus and beyond. Becki Santiago, the Carolina Union Events & Information Manager, will code the photo data to report back to Student Affairs leadership.

The Fall 2014 Functional Leadership Workshop Series kicks off on Tuesday, September 2 in the Union. Presented by the Office of Student Organizations, this series is designed to develop student organization officers and members into knowledgeable and effective leaders. The various sessions teach leaders all they need to know to make the most of their organization during the year -- everything from group icebreakers to recruiting to social media and more!
This series is designed specifically for leaders or officers of officially recognized student organizations, but organization members who do not hold an official position within their group are also highly encouraged to attend. See the series website for more details.

Welcome to the Quest for the Union Cup, our student employee competition! You may notice "tributes" running around the building this year competing for points and ultimately the Union Cup!
This series of challenges promotes interaction between full-time staff and students and encourages students to meet peers outside of their departments.
The 2014-2015 theme is The Hunger Games, and each student is a member of a district team. Districts earn points for professional characteristics while working and while participating in events outside of work, such as scavenger hunts, decorating contests, and trivia rounds. By rewarding student employees for excellent job performance, this program creates opportunities for enhanced group collaboration at the Union and prepares students for post graduate plans.

Crystal challenged Carolina Union and CUAB President Gabe Chess and the rest of the CUAB Chairs. Good luck!

It may be summertime, but the Carolina Union is full of activity each week thanks to UNC Orientation. In partnership with the Office of New Student & Carolina Parent Programs, the Union will host all first-year and transfer students along with parents and families throughout June, July, and August.
First-year students spend two days preparing for success at Carolina – meeting with academic advisors, learning about campus resources, and becoming more familiar with their new home. Transfer students pack this all into one day, while still getting a comprehensive look at life at UNC. The students aren’t the only ones getting acclimated though; parents and families have their own full schedule of presentations and tours to enjoy.
The Carolina Union hopes to make all orientation visitors feel welcome and comfortable. If you need directions or special assistance, please visit the Orientation Help Desk or Carolina Union Info Desk on the second floor near the West Lounge. See our maps for other resources.

This year's FallFest celebration will be held on August 17, 2014, at 9pm. FallFest is now in its eighteenth year and is a nationally known program. The purpose of FallFest is to provide a fun event to new and returning students at the beginning of the school year and encourage participation and interaction among all segments of the Carolina community. The primary focus is to give student organizations, University departments, and local businesses a creative way to inform and recruit new members, service users, and customers. Through demonstrations, information tables, competitions, performances, free food, and prizes, organizations and departments can tell their story to thousands of students. Our intent is to welcome students to the academic year with a fun-filled, alcohol-free celebration of student activities.
This program works: our crowd estimates are 25,000 students. Every student at Carolina knows that FallFest is the activity to attend at the start of the academic year. The program is not advertised off-campus and the focus is strictly Carolina students. The program runs from 9:00 pm until 2:00 am. Each year the event is kicked off by the Chancellor and Vice Chancellor, Student Body President, Carolina Union President, Graduate & Professional Student Federation President, and other student leaders. Coaches and players from various Carolina Varsity sports are also introduced. This starts the night of free food, performances by student groups, recruitment of students into student organizations, and education of all students about Carolina’s unique and special student culture.
