In her new role Ms. King will be responsible for the management of the Carolina Union organization and the operation of the Frank Porter Graham Student Union Building. She will serve as the visionary of the Carolina Union as it builds and supports community through the provision of programs, activities, student organization support, services, and facilities. Her portfolio will also include the Student Activities Office, Carolina Leadership Development Office, the Student Activities Fund Office, and Student Government.

FallFest 2013 was a great success! Opening with a Unity Step performance by the National Pan-Hellenic Council, a welcome by Chancellor Holt and Vice Chancellor Crisp and athletic team presentations by Volleyball, Men's Lacrosse, and Women's Basketball, FallFest was truly back after the rain cancellation of 2012. Due to the threat of showers, and last year's cancellation, the FallFest committee worked diligently to prepare a rain site — planning to move the event indoors to Fetzer Gym should weather conditions warrant. Fortunately, the skies were clear and the weather pleasant for the 17th annual FallFest event. Over 300 student organizations, 16 University departments, 30 sponsors, and over 20 food vendors were present to provide information, entertainment, and offer students opportunities to become involved in a myriad of ways for the coming academic year. The student entertainment provided on two stages was spectacular, and allowed performance groups the opportunity to showcase their talents as well as to recruit new members. As usual, Campus Recreation and Sport Clubs dominated Hooker Fields, with activities and information about their respective opportunities and clubs. With support provided by University Career Services and others, inflatables, 2 climbing walls, photo booths, and more than $100,000 in donated food from area restaurants rounding out the evening, it was terrific to welcome campus back with this year's FallFest!

Carly Mathews will serve as President of the Carolina Union for 2013-14, presiding over both the Board of Directors and the Carolina Union Activities Board. Mathews, a senior from Cary, NC, served as chair of the Fun committee this year, organizing events such as Gingerbread House decorating, the Harvest Festival and football game screenings. This coming year, Carly hopes to inform and excite people about the Union and all that it offers, as well as maintain traditions important to the Union and UNC. Carly is particularly interested in helping other students find their place at UNC and feels as though the Union in instrumental in guiding that process. “This is where you come to start and organization and this is where you come to grow an organization,” she said. Through her work with the Union, Carly is hopeful that more students can become involved in student life and learn more about what is important, fun, and exciting to them.

Effective March 4, 2013. The Pit, solicitation table and off-site table guidelines will be changed to reflect the following:

In the event of rain or other inclement weather, Pit reservations will be cancelled.

In the event of inclement weather, 16 solicitation tables will be staged in the South Road hallway adjacent to Wendy’s. Due to the limited space, tables will be available for organizations on a first-come, first-served basis. No audio may be played from these tables. The standard check-in process is still applicable.

In the event of inclement weather, all off-site table reservations will be cancelled.

The entire policy is located here. Questions regarding these changes? Please contact the Office of Event Services at 919-966-3832.

The LeaderShape Institute is a national leadership program, hosted at 70 campuses worldwide and over 50,000 graduates of the program. In its third year at Carolina, The LeaderShape Institute provides space in a living-learning environment for students to discover a vision and passion for the future and what it means to live and lead with integrity. Over spring break 65 students and 11 staff members went to Camp Oak Hill in Oxford, NC, to participate in the experience.

CUAB is hard at work this summer, planning and coordinating events for the Fall semester. They have fantastic weekend films planned, a viewing of the UNC vs. South Carolina football game (in the Blue Zone!), performances by Ari Picker and Emma Nadeau of Lost in the Trees and The Dirty Projectors, as well as a lecture by Eric Thomas. And that’s only the beginning! Homecoming details are being finalized and the board would love for you to get involved in program planning, both big and small, for the rest of the year. To find out more about how you can participate, visit cuab.web.unc.edu/get-involved.

Project Union is a series of creative weekly events produced entirely by student employees of the Union.
