Hashtags and Snapshots

Campus may be quiet this month, but you wouldn’t know it by looking our social media accounts. With orientation and summer programs in full swing, the Carolina Union has a variety of social initiatives at work to keep students engaged with campus life.

The biggest project is the return of Snapshots of Carolina, an annual photography display of student life in the Art Gallery. We’re giving you control of the exhibit this year, gathering photos directly from students and staff via Twitter and Instagram. Participate by hashtagging your favorite UNC photos with #carolinasnapshots, and visit the Art Gallery to see your snapshots in print. Besides the thrill of seeing your work in the gallery, you may also win a $20 Sugarland gift card. We randomly pick a winning participant each week!

Academic Advising is also giving out prizes for social photos this summer, but participation is limited to orientation leaders. You’ll find them all over campus taking creative group photos as part of the #DoItForTheHill challenge. Be sure to check Twitter and Instagram to see all the submissions!

Need help with your #carolinasnapshots or #DoItForTheHill photo? Stop by the Carolina Union photo booth in the Art Gallery! Using green screen software, you can choose your own adventure to see yourself at your favorite Carolina landmark. We take photos from 11:30am-1:30pm on orientation days (most Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays). Find your photos on the Carolina Union Facebook page.

One of our favorite new projects is the Pop-Up Cart, where new first-year and transfer students have received cookies for following us on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram. Don’t worry if you haven’t seen the cart yet – it’ll be back! Just follow @CarolinaUnion on social media to keep updated on its whereabouts and available prizes.

Though this summer has already been packed with social activities, we’re looking forward to an even busier fall. Want to be the first to know about new events and opportunities in the Union? Then let's keep in touch!
