Create, engage, explore, involve, perform, play, serve...this is student life at Carolina.
Students who participate in programs, activities, and organizations learn by doing and are challenged to think creatively, analytically, and critically. It is here that Carolina students are afforded the opportunity to put into practice what they are learning in the classroom and to develop their core leadership skills, enabling them to create change and community.
“The Union is designed to enlarge upon the benefits of study and at the same time to symbolize the Carolina student’s traditional freedom to live and mature through activities beyond the academic context." -Howard Henry, Union Director, 1958-1986
Student self- and group expression are essential and supported by the Union’s student and professional staff. Carolina Leadership Development promotes exploration, assessment, and growth of students’ abilities, skills, knowledge, and behavior as agents of change and leaders with student organizations and within the larger university community. The Carolina Union Activities Board is a student volunteer programming organization whose members gain valuable group and leadership experiences providing the university community with collaborative programs that enhance intellectual life, offer cultural experiences, and promote social interactions and citizenship. The Office of Student Organizations works with all student organizations to facilitate their use of University resources and to empower students in their provision of services, programs, and activities that enhance the academic experience, extend learning, and build community.
